Artwork

CHIPS’ art department has years of experience and is here to assist you with your design. We will complete the art so it produces the best possible outcome to the manner in which your image is to be applied (DTG, Screen Print, Embroidery). Artwork is so very important. The printing can only be as good as the artwork. For this reason, CHIPS cannot be responsible for the quality of printing due to the artwork that is supplied by the customer. CHIPS is not responsible for any misspellings, errors, or issues in your art file. We do our best to catch these errors and point them out to you, but we may not catch them all. If it is in your art file and on your approval, that is how we will print it.

If you have any doubt your art will look as good as you hope…our very experienced art staff is here to help.

CHIPS art rate is $25.00 per hour.

CHIPS Embroidery Digitizing Rate is $50.00 for designs 10,000 stitches or less.

Full front sizes designs are based on a per job basis and are based on total stitch count. $2.50 per 1000 stitches.

DTG Printing Art:

File Resolution:

  • Recommend: 300 dpi
  • Acceptable: 200 dpi
  • Not acceptable: less than 150 dpi

File Size:

Files must be provided at the size you need to print. If you need 10″ x 10″ print, your artwork should also be set to 10″ x 10″. If you are unsure what size to print your artwork, we recommend measuring a real t-shirt to see how different sizes look.

*Please Note: In most cases you cannot simply ‘resize’ an existing small file to increase its size. You need to find the original larger file or recreate the artwork to the appropriate size.

Files Size & Resolution Examples:

  • A 5″ X 5″ print @ 300 dpi is a 1500 X 1500 pixel image
  • A 10″ X 10″ print @ 300 dpi is a 3000 X 3000 pixel image
  • A 12″ X 12″ print @ 300 dpi is a 3600 X 3600 pixel image

What to do if your file is too small:

If your file is too small you still have options to make amazing things happen.

  • try locating a larger version of your file
  • print your artwork at a smaller size, many prints don’t need to be as large as you’d think to look good
  • our artists can vectorize your artwork for you so it can be properly scaled up. we are happy to do this free of charge, in most cases the artwork will be altered slightly

File Types:

We recommend using .png or .psd files to submit your artwork. Vector artwork also works as well. We recommend .ai format for vector art.

Maximum Digital Print Size:

The largest print size is 13.5″ inches wide by 18″ tall. Some products or placements, like children’s clothing and youth or lady garments do not have a large enough printable area to achieve the max print size.

Color Preparation and Matching:

Disclaimer: When images are digitally printed the colors may not match exactly as how you see it on your screen. You are responsible for color preparation in your artwork and we will not refund or reprint orders for color differences.

Our artists will do whatever it can to print as close to the color you prefer, but it is possible the color desired is not achievable. There are steps you can take to improve the colors in your print. We suggest putting the setting on CMYK to best know how colors will print on shirts.

Print Brightness:

Disclaimer: You are responsible for choosing artwork and garments that will create bright prints. We will not refund or reprint orders due to lack of brightness. If uncertain please ask. We are here to help.

While digital printing can create phenomenal results, it doesn’t always deliver the brightest prints. We will automatically pretreat garments and print a white base which will deliver a brighter print. To maximize print vibrancy, print on 100% cotton white garments.   Additionally, your file controls the colors that printers will print.  We strongly recommend increasing the saturation of your artwork if you are looking for the brightest possible colors.

Screen Printing Art:

File Format:

We require artwork in one of the following formats in order of best case to worst case.

  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai file) with text outlined
  • Encapsulated Post Script (.eps file)
  • Portable Document Format (.pdf file) editable if possible

Please leave all artwork in layers, convert text to outlines where necessary, and embed any images or fonts that are in your artwork.

The following items are not print ready and may require additional artwork fees to ensure print quality:

  • JPG’s, Publisher Files, Word Documents, and Microsoft Paint

NOTE: When designing your artwork make sure it is designed at the actual size it will be printed as. This will ensure the best print quality and eliminates any guess work.

Embroidery Art:

All digital files are redrawn as virtual stitches to communicate the design to the embroidery machine. The process for redrawing a design or logo as stitches is called digitizing. The cleanest files produce the best embroidered outcome.

Letter Size – Letters should no smaller than .25″ or they will not embroider as cleanly as we prefer.

Detail – Super fine detail will likely be compromised. Most embroidered logos are small by nature, thread is a fixed width and the fabric adds an element of compromise.

Gradients – Complicated gradients can sew very well. Keep in mind, however, that stitches do not blend, so the gradient will be less smooth in appearance than what you see on your computer screen.

PREFERRED FORMAT
Vector files (ai, eps, pdf) with fonts converted to outlines. This format produces the highest quality embroidery.

ACCEPTABLE FORMAT
Raster files (jpg, tif, gif, png, eps) at a minimum of 150dpi at the final image size.

UNACCEPTABLE FORMAT

The following are not considered desirable: photocopies, pen and/or pencil drawings, business cards, letterheads. Although we can digitize these, the quality is only as good as the material you supply us with. Please provide us with the best top quality art you can.

EMBROIDERY DISKS

For customer supplied disks, Tajima DST files are accepted. Basic changes to layout can be made (i.e. delete or add a section, reorder sections and resize up to 10%). Resizing past 10% will require a new disk as will increasing or decrease in the thickness of specific sections.

Please note that customer supplied disks created for specific colors or fabrics may not be compatible with our products (i.e., previously done on hats may not sew well on bags). In cases such as these, a new disk may be needed.
